“Find what breaks your heart and get busy”
Being a volunteer is extremely rewarding, educational and exciting. You can have a huge impact on the lives of homeless animals. In many cases, this is the first time someone has really cared for them. Volunteering should be both a learning experience and a source of fulfillment. We train all our volunteers and they are encouraged to participate in jobs that they find worthwhile and challenging.
C.A.R.E.S. is staffed 365 days a year to feed, clean, care for and find homes for the animals. Therefore, we seek individuals who are able to commit 2 – 3 hours per week for a period of 3 months or hopefully longer.
This area is always our greatest need! Cleaning the shelter and feeding cats are done every morning, 7 days a week. We require volunteers who are committed and can spare approximately 2 to 3 hours per week (and of course you can visit with the kitties when the chores are done!)
Adoptions are done in the Langley Petsmart Store. Luv-A-Pet is open weekday evenings (from 7 – 9 pm) and on weekends (12 – 4 pm). Volunteers screen potential adoptive parents and try to match the right cat with the right home.
Duties include administration of evening medication at the shelter, observation of cats, light housekeeping duties and closing shelter for the night. Time commitment 1.5 to 2 hours per week.
Foster homes are always needed for mother cats and their kittens, special needs cats, and cats who are stressed and need a break from the shelter. Your help in this area will make the cats and kittens more adoptable through your love and socialization.
This is a very important aspect of C.A.R.E.S. Our Kitty Kissers come in on a regular basis to the shelter and to Luv A Pet, inside Petsmart in Langley, to groom and spend time with our cats as well as do a few light chores. Your help in this area will make the cats and kittens more adoptable through your love and socialization. We require approximately 2 hours per week for these shifts.
We have regular fundraising events; Our Annual Family Fun Bowling Night, Walk-a-Thon, Pet Photos with Santa (Santa Claws) as well as weekly pub Meat Draws. Help is always needed to make these events run smoothly.
We have regular events to let people know what C.A.R.E.S. is all about and regular Adopt-a-thon events at Petsmart. Help is always needed to make these events run smoothly.
C.A.R.E.S. has openings for volunteers to run our weekly meat draws at Jimy Mac’s Pub in Walnut Grove. You could help out for 2 hours once a month or if you really like to socialize, have fun an raise funds we would be happy to have you twice a month – whatever you have time for.
You will be working with one other person selling meat draw tickets and talking about C.A.R.E.S. to those who want more information about the shelter. The draws are held Saturdays from 1:30 – 3:30 at Jimy Macs Pub in Walnut Grove.
Newsletters / Website / Social Media
In order to produce our newsletter and update our website we need articles submitted about cats: your cat, adopted cats, cats in the shelter, rescue stories, etc. We need good quality photographs taken of the cats, the fundraising events and other events. We also need articles written about our dedicated volunteers in action.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email us and request our C.A.R.E.S. Volunteer Application Form.
