Volunteer Opportunities

SHELTER CLEANING & FEEDING CATS

This area is always our greatest need! Cleaning the shelter and feeding cats are done every morning, 7 days a week. We require volunteers who are committed and can spare approximately 2 to 3 hours per week (and of course you can visit with the kitties when the chores are done!)

ADOPTIONS

Adoptions are done in the Langley Petsmart Store. Luv-A-Pet is open weekday evenings (from 7 – 9 pm) and on weekends (12 – 4 pm). Volunteers screen potential adoptive parents and try to match the right cat with the right home.

MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS

Duties include administration of evening medication at the shelter, observation of cats, light housekeeping duties and closing shelter for the night. Time commitment 1.5 to 2 hours per week.

FOSTERING

Foster homes are always needed for mother cats and their kittens, special needs cats, and cats who are stressed and need a break from the shelter. Your help in this area will make the cats and kittens more adoptable through your love and socialization.

KITTY KISSERS

This is a very important aspect of C.A.R.E.S. Our Kitty Kissers come in on a regular basis to the shelter and to Luv A Pet, inside PETsMART in Langley to groom and spend time with our cats as well as do a few light chores. Your help in this area will make the cats and kittens more adoptable through your love and socialization. We require approximately 2 hours per week for these shifts.

FUND RAISING

We have regular fundraising events – Bowl-a-thon, Cat Walk, Pet Photos with Santa, Garage Sale and weekly Pub "meat draws". Help is always needed to make these events run smoothly.

EVENTS

We have regular events to let people know what C.A.R.E.S. is all about – A booth at Willowbrook Mall, Adopt-a-thon events and Cat Shows. Help is always needed to make these events run smoothly.

NEWSLETTER / WEBSITE

In order to produce a newsletter or a website, we need articles submitted about cats; your cat, adopted cats, cats in the shelter, rescue stories etc. We need photographs and videos taken of the cats, the fundraising events and other events. We also need articles written about and photos taken of our dedicated volunteers in action.

If you are interested in volunteering, please Contact Us or call us at the shelter 604-532-5632 (you'll usually get voicemail, but please leave a message and your call will be returned).

Please note that volunteers must be 18 years of age or older (except for medical care & adoption volunteers who must be 21 years of age or older). If you are required to complete volunteer hours for high school then you can volunteer at the age of 16 - 17 with written permission from a parent or legal guardian. You must commit to completing the hours within a specific time frame which you can work out with the volunteer coordinator.
