It’s that time of year again! Our 23rd Annual Walk for the Cats is coming up, and we’d love for you to join us! 💕🐱 This is C.A.R.E.S. Cat Shelter’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and every dollar raised goes directly toward helping the cats in our community. Help us, help them! 🐾

And don’t worry—the 5 km walk is not mandatory! You can walk part of the route, hang back and cheer on the walkers, or simply spend the afternoon with our wonderful volunteers.
You can still collect pledges and participate in helping our cats without doing the walk! ❤️

CHEESY NEEDS A LITTLE HELP
For possibly a couple of years, Cheesy lived outside an apartment complex in South Langley. We don’t know how he ended up there, or how long he had been fending for himself, but thankfully, he wasn’t completely alone.
Over the past year, our amazing Kitty Kisser Victoria and her neighbours began caring for him, bringing him food and slowly earning his trust. And Cheesy clearly remembered them, whenever they arrived to feed him, he would rush over to see them.
That told us something important: Cheesy wasn’t a cat who wanted to live alone. He was a social boy who had simply been forgotten.
On Saturday, Victoria was finally able to trap him and bring him into CARES. When we saw him, we knew he needed help right away. His ears were so badly infested with mites that we rushed him to the vet first thing Sunday morning. Since then, he has been neutered, had a much-needed ear cleaning, flea treatment and a good bath. He is already feeling so much better!
Cheesy is estimated to be somewhere between 5–10 years old and appears to have been surviving on his own for a very long time. And unfortunately, he still has a long road ahead.
Cheesy needs an extensive dental, including his neutering, ear care and all his needs the total estimate could be around $2,000. Depending if he needs multiple teeth removed. For a small, volunteer run shelter like CARES, unexpected medical cases like this can be a huge financial burden. But after everything this sweet boy has endured, we don’t want dental pain to be one more thing he has to live with.
He spent years being forgotten. Now it’s our turn to show him he is worth fighting for.
