Cat Rescue, Shelter and Find home for Stray and Abandoned Cats

“Find what breaks your heart and get busy”

Being a volunteer is extremely rewarding, educational and exciting. You can have a huge impact on the lives of homeless animals. In many cases, this is the first time someone has really cared for them. Volunteering should be both a learning experience and a source of fulfillment. We train all our volunteers and they are encouraged to participate in jobs that they find worthwhile and challenging.

C.A.R.E.S. is staffed 365 days a year to feed, clean, care for and find homes for the animals. Therefore, we seek individuals who are able to commit 2 – 3 hours per week for a period of 3 months or hopefully longer.

Volunteer Opportunities

Shelter Cleaning & Feeding CatsVolunteer 4

This area is always our greatest need! Cleaning the shelter and feeding cats are done every morning, 7 days a week. We require volunteers who are committed and can spare approximately 2 to 3 hours per week (and of course you can visit with the kitties when the chores are done!)

Adoptions are done in the Langley Petsmart Store. Luv-A-Pet is open Tuesday to Friday (from 6 – 9 pm) and on weekends (12 – 3 pm). Volunteers screen potential adoptive parents and try to match the right cat with the right home.

Medical Volunteers

Duties include administration of evening medication at the shelter, observation of cats, light housekeeping duties and closing shelter for the night. Time commitment 1.5 to 2 hours per week.

Foster homes are always needed for mother cats and their kittens, special needs cats, and cats who are stressed and need a break from the shelter. Your help in this area will make the cats and kittens more adoptable through your love and socialization. [bsk-pdf-manager-pdf id=”4″]

Kitty Kissers

This is a very important aspect of C.A.R.E.S. Our Kitty Kissers come in on a regular basis to the shelter to groom and spend time with our cats as well as do a few light chores. Your help in this area will make the cats and kittens more adoptable through your love and socialization. We require approximately 2 hours per week for these shifts.

Fund Raising

The fundraising committee here at C.A.R.E.S. is made up of a group of dedicated volunteers helping the animals in our community. Our fundraising team is an integral part of our organization!

This group takes care of all kinds of fundraising aspects such as: Grant applications, online 50/50 draws, online silent auctions, hosting adoptathons, walkathons and organizing events like our pub nights!

C.A.R.E.S. is a no kill cat shelter, and our vet bills can be considerable. We also have a shelter space which we can house up to, and at times over 100 cats. Running this shelter also has numerous costs like cat food, litter, cleaning supplies, electricity, gas, and repairs. Because of this we rely heavily on fundraising events. Our team of dedicated volunteers that operate this part of our organization are absolutely priceless to us and the cats in our care!
